ArmsUp Motorsports Claims Three Top Fives at SCCA Kettle National

Posted on September 4, 2009

SHEBOYGAN FALLS, Wis. - Jim Victor led his ArmsUp Motorsports teammates Joe Tovo and Jeff Pietz to a triple top-five finish in the Formula Continental Class of the SCCA Kettle National. Victor took home a second place result with Joe Tovo, who made his first start as an ArmsUp driver, fourth and Jeff Pietz fifth. It was a solid result for the team as the ArmsUp drivers continue to build momentum going into the SCCA Runoffs.

Victor started off the weekend strong in qualifying leading the team with a third place starting position. Kirk Kindsfater was the next best ArmsUp car putting his number 32 car fifth on the grid. Tovo tripped the timing lights sixth in class with Pietz and John Dickmann 12th and 13th respectively. On the Atlantic side of the ArmsUp tent Jose Paredes was having a tough weekend. Paredes lost two engines in two sessions which resulted in the Chicago driver missing qualifying.

When the green flag waived Jim Victor got a great starting jumping into the second position with Tovo moving into the fifth spot after Kindsfater experienced an ignition problem on the pace lap and had to pit. Jeff Pietz began steadily climbing up from his 12th place starting spot bringing Dickmann with him. When the checkered flag fell Victor was able to hold on to his second place to claim his best national finish of the season. Joe Tovo put his DNJ Trucking car fourth, Pietz advanced seven spots from his qualifying to claim fifth and Dickmann scored a 10th. Kindsfater was able to get back into the field once the crew had fixed the ignition problem, but he was several laps down and unable to be a contender in the event.

After losing both Atlantic engines Jose Paredes was able to switch into one of ArmsUp Motorsports Zetec powered cars for the Atlantic race. Driving an unfamiliar car Paredes was able to finish the race seventh and gather enough points to gain entry into the Runoffs in the Formula Atlantic division.

"This was a solid weekend for our team," team owner Gregg Borland stated after the event. "First I want to welcome Joe Tovo to the ArmsUp team. He did a great job this weekend and is a strong addition to our FC lineup. The whole crew did a nice job again and we are all looking forward to putting on a good show at this year's Runoffs."

ArmsUp Motorsports will return to Road America September 10th to continue their testing program for the SCCA National Championship Runoffs. The ArmsUp team is excited to welcome back Rick Balsley who will turn his first laps in his F2000 car since suffering a broken back in March.
