ELKHART LAKE, Wis. – Revere Greist and Pat Mc Ginnis established ArmsUp Motorsports as the Formula Continental team to beat at Road America in
2010. The pair dominated this weekend’s SCCA Cat National at Road America by sweeping the top two positions in the FC class for qualifying and
both races one and two. The double win capped off an extremely successful weekend for the ArmsUp team that saw John Greist score two top fives and
Rick Balsley come home with a pair of eighth place finishes in the 20 car FC field.
The official race weekend was scheduled to start on Friday
afternoon with qualifying for race 1. However Mother Nature had other ideas in mind as a thick fog covered the four-mile Road America circuit
cancelling the first qualifying session. The officials made the decision to make Saturday’s second qualifier set the grid for both race one and
two. This decision played into the hands of the ArmsUp Motorsports team as they placed five of their seven cars in the top-ten with Greist and Mc
Ginnis first and second, John Greist fourth, Jim Victor sixth and Rick Balsley eighth. John Dickmann and Jeff Pietz also put in solid drives in the
session placing 14th and 16th respectively in the 20 car field.
Race one was all Revere Greist as the Madison resident ran and hid from the
field from the drop of the green flag. Greist would lap within one tenth of a second of the FC lap record as he dominated the race leading flag to
flag. Mc Ginnis would have a little bit more of a race as he battled for the second position. The St. Louis resident was able to slot into second at
the start but was pressured for the entire race by former SCCA National Champion Brian Tomasi. Mc Ginnis never put a wheel wrong and led Tomasi
across the line to finish a strong second. John Greist returned to Road America for the first time since his violent accident at last year’s
June Sprints. Greist was able to drive a very consistent race and come home fifth. Rick Balsley also put in a solid drive to finish eighth after
starting eighth. Jim Victor, who started sixth, had a suspension part let go just past half way and did a fantastic job keeping the car on the road
and out of the fence. John Dickmann and Jeff Pietz were each able to improve one spot during the race and finish 13th and 15th respectively.
Race two mirrored race one at the front with Revere once again putting in a dominating performance. The driver of the number 56 Waypoint
Health Innovations car once again came within a tenth of the FC track record lapping a full one and half seconds faster than his nearest competitor.
Pat Mc Ginnis was once again pressured early by Tomasi for the second spot, but was able to pull away and claim his second runner-up finish of the
weekend. John Greist improved one spot over race one finishing a very strong fourth in just his second race back after his accident. Rick Balsley
stayed consistent the whole weekend finishing eighth as he did in race one. Jeff Pietz had his best run of the weekend moving up four spots to the
12th position. After getting caught out in an early race incident Jim Victor was forced to run from the back. The Iowa driver worked his way back up
to the 15th position at the end.
“This was a very good weekend for our team,” ArmsUp owner Gregg Borland said after the race
weekend. “Our form at Road America keeps getting better and better. Revere was on all weekend; I couldn’t ask more from him. Pat did a
fantastic job resisting pressure in race one and really settled in and drove well in race two. The rest of the guys did a fantastic job. We had five
cars in the top-ten in qualifying, that’s a great result for this group. We are really looking forward to the June Sprints to see if we can
carry this momentum.”
ArmsUp Motorsports travels this weekend to the oval at O’Reilly Raceway Park with driver Joe Tovo for the
USF2000 National Championship. This will be ArmsUp’s first appearance on an oval and in the USF2000 National Championship.
